Planning a honeymoon in Southeast Asia? Discover 10 of the best honeymoon destinations for 2026, from Bali and Koh Samui to El Nido, Hoi An, Langkawi, Luang Prabang, and Komodo, with budgets, hotels, activities, practical tips, and honest advice.
So, You Got Married. Now Where Do You Disappear To?
There is something wonderfully absurd about planning a honeymoon.
You spend months discussing flowers, seating plans, relatives who should absolutely not be seated next to each other, and whether anybody genuinely cares what color the napkins are. Then suddenly the wedding is finished, someone has taken away the cake, your formal shoes have declared war on your feet, and you are expected to select the trip that will apparently represent the opening chapter of married life.
No pressure.
For me, the best honeymoon destinations in Southeast Asia aren’t simply places with expensive villas, infinity pools, and hotel staff scattering rose petals across a bed with military precision. You can find those easily enough. The trips I remember are the ones with contrast: eating something smoky and spicy from a plastic stool at lunch, floating in a ridiculous private pool three hours later, getting caught in warm rain, discovering a temple without rushing through it, or sitting beside the sea with absolutely nowhere else you need to be.
And Southeast Asia does this exceptionally well.
You can combine beaches with rainforest, temples with rooftop bars, private villas with $3 noodle lunches, wildlife with spa days, and proper adventure with the glorious honeymoon tradition of doing absolutely nothing until somebody brings you another coconut.
This guide covers my 10 best Southeast Asia honeymoon ideas for 2026, including where to stay, when to go, how long you need, realistic budgets, what experiences are actually worth paying for, and which destination suits which kind of couple.

| 10. Labuan Bajo & Komodo | Adventure honeymoon | 4–6 days | April–October | $180–600+ |
*My planning ranges are for two people, excluding international flights. Your honeymoon can cost substantially more if the phrase “private pool villa” starts appearing frequently in your browser history.
1. Bali, Indonesia — The Honeymoon That Can Be Five Holidays at Once

Best for: First-time visitors, villas, food, temples, beach clubs, spas and couples who cannot agree on one type of holiday.
There is a reason Bali keeps appearing on honeymoon lists, although I would argue many couples visit it incorrectly.
If you book ten nights in one busy beach neighborhood and spend your holiday commuting through traffic, you may return wondering what everybody was talking about.
Instead, split it.
I would spend three or four nights around Ubud, followed by four or five nights around Uluwatu, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua, or a quieter southern beach.
Suddenly Bali makes sense.
Official Indonesian tourism guidance describes April to October as Bali’s main dry season, with November to March generally wetter, although tropical weather has become less predictable. (Visit Indonesia)
FIND ROMANTIC BALI VILLAS ON BOOKING.COM
Start in Ubud, Where You Can Hear Yourself Think
Wake early.
Outside your villa, the air still feels slightly cool. Somewhere nearby, a scooter coughs into life. Incense drifts from a small offering on the pavement. Roosters are behaving as though they have personally been hired to ensure nobody sleeps beyond 6:30.
This is when I like Ubud.
Go to the rice terraces early rather than arriving when every swing and viewing platform is busy. Visit temples. Book a Balinese cooking class. Have a proper massage.
Then do something increasingly rare on vacation.
Nothing.
Read beside your pool.
Take a nap.
Order lunch.
Your marriage will survive the lack of an afternoon itinerary.
Then Move South
For honeymooners, I prefer Uluwatu or Jimbaran over the busiest parts of Kuta.
Uluwatu Temple sits dramatically above the Indian Ocean and is one of the island’s most memorable coastal places. When visiting temples, dress respectfully, follow local rules, and remember that religious sites are places of worship rather than elaborate Instagram studios. Indonesian tourism authorities specifically advise respectful clothing and behavior at Bali’s temples. (Visit Indonesia)
Honeymoon splurge: book one excellent private-pool villa rather than upgrading every hotel during a multi-week trip.
What Will a Bali Honeymoon Cost?
For two people per day:
- Comfortable honeymoon: roughly $120–220
- Boutique/luxury: roughly $220–400
- Pool-villa-and-spa mode: $400–700+
Typical essentials can be remarkably reasonable away from luxury resorts: local meals may cost only a few dollars, casual restaurants around $5–15 per person, while fine dining, cocktails and beach clubs quickly move into Western-European pricing territory.
Foreign visitors should also remember Bali’s IDR 150,000 tourism levy, payable through the official Love Bali system unless exempt. (Visit Indonesia)
🌴 FIND BALI PRIVATE TOURS ON GETYOURGUIDE
If you plan to explore beyond your hotel zone, a private driver often makes considerably more sense than renting a scooter simply because everybody on Instagram seems to own one.
My tip: Do not learn to ride a motorbike during your honeymoon.
That sentence should not require further explanation.
2. Koh Samui, Thailand — For Couples Who Have Earned the Right to Be Lazy

Best for: Beachfront resorts, Thai food, spa days and uncomplicated tropical luxury.
Some honeymoon destinations make you work for them.
Koh Samui does not.
You can fly onto the island, be driven directly to your hotel, take off your shoes and make surprisingly few meaningful decisions for the next five days.
Official Thai tourism information lists beaches such as Chaweng, Lamai, and Taling Ngam, while the island also serves as a base for trips toward Ang Thong National Marine Park. (Tourism Authority of Thailand)
For honeymooners, though, where you stay matters enormously.
Choose Your Side of Samui Carefully
Pick Chaweng if you want restaurants, nightlife and action.
Choose Bo Phut if you want plenty happening without feeling permanently surrounded by it.
Look toward Taling Ngam, Lipa Noi, or quieter northern beaches if your ideal evening involves sunset, dinner and possibly forgetting what day it is.
The western side is particularly good for couples wanting space and sunset-facing resorts.
What I Would Actually Do
Spend one day exploring the island.
Take one boat trip.
Book one excellent spa.
Go out for a proper Thai dinner.
Then stop.
A honeymoon is one of the few trips where staying in a wonderful hotel isn’t laziness. The hotel is part of the destination.
Budget approximately $150–250 a day per couple for a comfortable trip, $250–500 for an upscale resort honeymoon, and substantially more for private villas and high-end beachfront properties.
Food remains one of Samui’s great pleasures. One evening can mean grilled seafood with lime, garlic and chilli beside the road; the next, a polished tasting menu overlooking the Gulf.
That contrast is exactly why Thailand works.

3. El Nido, Palawan — The “Are You Seeing This?” Honeymoon

Best for: Island hopping, kayaking, snorkeling, and couples who would choose adventure over a resort buffet.
The first time a boat enters the limestone country around El Nido, the scale feels slightly ridiculous.
Dark cliffs rise straight from green-blue water. Boats shrink beside them. Small beaches appear between walls of rock. Then somebody hands you a kayak and tells you to paddle through the opening.
This is not the honeymoon for somebody whose primary objective is to keep their hair perfectly styled.
And that is precisely why I love the idea.
El Nido sits at the northern end of Palawan and opens onto the Bacuit Archipelago, where dozens of islands and limestone formations create the landscape for which the area has become famous. The official Philippine tourism guide recommends December to April for the driest, calmest conditions and notes that popular lagoons have visitor controls, making advance planning worthwhile during peak periods. (Philippines Travel)
The One Thing You Absolutely Should Do
Island hop.
Not once. Ideally twice.
Your days revolve around lagoons, snorkeling sites, beaches and lunch cooked on the boat. Rice. Grilled fish. Fruit. Something spicy enough to remind you that sunscreen is not the only thing capable of making your face burn.
Big Lagoon is deservedly famous. Kayaking between its rock walls in relatively calm water feels worlds away from the noise of town.
If budget allows, consider a private or small-group boat for at least one day.
You gain flexibility, leave earlier, and spend less time waiting for twenty-seven strangers to finish photographing themselves.
Where Should Honeymooners Stay?
You have two broad choices.
Stay near El Nido town for restaurants, bars, and easier logistics.
Or splurge on one of the island resorts around Bacuit Bay for considerably more privacy.
Official Philippine tourism information currently lists high-end El Nido resort accommodation reaching ₱20,000–50,000+ per night, which tells you approximately how enthusiastically the luxury end of the market can attack your honeymoon fund. (Philippines Travel)
A sensible, comfortable couple’s budget is around $140–250 per day, while a private-island-style honeymoon can easily run $400–700+.

My tip: Give El Nido at least four full days. Weather can cancel boat trips. Scheduling your dream lagoon excursion on the morning before your flight is the travel equivalent of tempting a mischievous god.
4. Hoi An, Vietnam — Where Your Honeymoon Budget Suddenly Feels Very Powerful

Best for: Food, boutique hotels, cycling, history, beaches and couples who like doing things rather than simply lying beside a pool.
Hoi An is almost suspiciously good at being romantic.
Not because it tries particularly hard.
The old houses are yellow rather than polished beige. Scooters hum around the outskirts. Food stalls smoke beside roads. Laundry hangs where laundry needs to hang. When rain arrives, the streets shine. When evening comes, lamps appear along the river.
The former trading port developed through centuries of interaction between Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, and European merchants, leaving an architectural mix that remains central to Hoi An Ancient Town today. (Vietnam Tourism)
The Honeymoon Routine I Would Choose
Stay somewhere between Ancient Town and the countryside.
Wake early and borrow bicycles.
Ride through rice fields.
Stop for coffee so strong it could probably negotiate international treaties.
Return for lunch: perhaps crisp banh xeo, fragrant herbs, chilli, grilled pork, or cao lau, with thick noodles and crunchy toppings.
Spend the afternoon at your pool.
Then walk into town when the heat drops.
No taxi required. No elaborate schedule.
Add a Beach Day
An Bang Beach gives you the sea without abandoning everything that makes Hoi An interesting.
For honeymooners who become restless after forty minutes on a sun lounger, this combination is excellent: culture + food + countryside + beach.
And the value can be absurdly good.
A stylish boutique hotel that might destroy your budget in Singapore can be surprisingly affordable here.
Plan around $80–150 per couple per day for a comfortable honeymoon, or $150–300+ if you lean into luxury hotels, private transfers, spas and nicer restaurants.

5. Langkawi, Malaysia — Easy Luxury Without the Performance

Best for: Resorts, rainforest, beaches, couples who want something easy but not boring.
Langkawi has a quality I increasingly appreciate when traveling.
It doesn’t need you to rush.
The archipelago consists of 99 islands, and its geology is exceptionally old; Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark includes areas such as Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park and Kilim Karst Geoforest Park. (Malaysia Travel)
That gives you considerably more to do than move between hotel pool and dinner table.
Although that remains an entirely respectable option.
The Two Langkawi Experiences I Wouldn’t Skip
First, ride the Langkawi SkyCab toward Mount Machinchang. The cable car rises to around 708 meters, with the Sky Bridge providing one of the island’s better high-level views. (Malaysia Travel)
Second, take a responsible mangrove trip through Kilim Karst Geoforest Park.
Choose operators that observe wildlife rather than chasing, feeding, or surrounding it.
That distinction matters.
Budget
For two people:
- Comfortable: $120–200/day
- Luxury: $200–400/day
- Top-end resort: $400+
Langkawi is particularly good for a four-to-six-night honeymoon, especially if you are combining it with Kuala Lumpur, Penang, or Singapore.

6. Luang Prabang, Laos — Romance for People Who Don’t Need a Swim-Up Bar

Best for: Slow mornings, temples, waterfalls, boutique hotels and couples who secretly hate crowded resorts.
Luang Prabang is different from nearly everything else on this list.
There is no beach.
No enormous nightlife district.
No megacity skyline.
Instead, you get old temple roofs between trees, French-influenced buildings, quiet lanes, the Mekong, night-market smoke, strong coffee and mornings that encourage you to walk rather than hurry.
This is where I would go if the wedding itself exhausted me.
Kuang Si Is the Day Trip
About 29 kilometers south of Luang Prabang, Kuang Si Falls drops through multiple limestone pools before a larger cascade of roughly 60 meters. (tourismlaos.org)
Go early.
The pools become busier later in the day, and Kuang Si is much nicer before every swimming area fills with people attempting synchronized vacation photography.
Bring proper sandals. Respect areas where swimming is prohibited. Do not leave plastic bottles behind.
Give the Town Time
Walk rather than racing between landmarks.
Cross the river.
Take a sunset boat ride.
Sit somewhere overlooking the Mekong.
Eat sticky rice with your hands.
Order something grilled over charcoal and notice the edges where the marinade has blackened slightly.
This is a place where the honeymoon becomes slower.
And after a wedding, slower may be exactly the luxury you need.
A comfortable couple can budget roughly $70–120 per day. Boutique-hotel-and-private-tour travelers might spend $150–250+.

7. Siem Reap, Cambodia — The Honeymoon With a 5:00 A.M. Alarm That Is Actually Worth It

Best for: History, photography, excellent hotels, spas and couples who enjoy exploring together.
Honeymoon advice normally includes phrases such as sleep in.
I am going to betray you.
Set an alarm.
Angkor Wat is one of the rare places where crawling out of bed in darkness can be justified.
The wider Angkor Archaeological Park is far more than one temple: Angkor Thom, Bayon, Ta Prohm, Preah Khan, Banteay Srei and many others could comfortably occupy several days.
Current official ticket prices are US$37 for one day, US$62 for three days and US$72 for seven days. A pass bought after the official late-afternoon threshold can also permit entry that evening while remaining valid for the following day, according to Angkor Enterprise. (tourismcambodia.org)
Don’t Try to See Everything
Three temples properly beat nine temples while dehydrated and quietly resenting your spouse.
Hire a good local guide.
Learn what you’re looking at.
Stop for lunch.
Return to your hotel when afternoon heat begins melting your enthusiasm.
Swim.
Nap.
Then go out again.
This is another reason Siem Reap works remarkably well for honeymooners: hotel value is excellent.
You can find polished boutique properties, pools and spa treatments at prices considerably below many beach-resort destinations.
Budget roughly $80–150 per couple per day comfortably or $150–250+ for upscale hotels, private drivers, guides and better restaurants.

My tip: Buy the three-day pass if you can. Seeing Angkor slowly is infinitely better than turning a millennium of Khmer history into an endurance event.
8. Singapore — The Honeymoon for Couples Who Like Their Romance Air-Conditioned

Best for: Food, luxury hotels, rooftop drinks, architecture and combining with another destination.
People sometimes skip Singapore on honeymoon lists because it isn’t the archetypal cheap tropical escape.
I think that is a mistake.
Combine three nights in Singapore with a beach destination, and the contrast is fantastic.
One evening you’re eating noodles at a hawker center while somebody vigorously chops roast meat six feet away.
The next you’re drinking something unnecessarily sophisticated while looking down on Marina Bay.
Then you’re wandering beneath the enormous Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay after dark.
Singapore remains hot and humid throughout the year, with temperatures around the high 20s to low 30s Celsius and rainfall possible in every season. Its MRT and bus system make getting around exceptionally straightforward. (Visit Singapore)
Where I’d Spend the Money
The hotel.
A honeymoon is a good excuse to choose somewhere memorable around Marina Bay, Sentosa, or a heritage property closer to the historic districts.
But do not spend every meal in that hotel.
Go eat.
Seriously.
Eat Hainanese chicken rice.
Find good laksa.
Try kaya toast.
Order satay until you begin making mathematically irresponsible decisions.
Singapore is expensive by regional standards, but food does not have to be.
Expect roughly $220–350 per couple per day for a comfortable honeymoon and $400–600+ if you choose luxury accommodation and higher-end restaurants.

Singapore also makes a superb stopover before Bali, Langkawi, Bohol, or Vietnam.
9. Bohol & Panglao, Philippines — When You Want Beaches but Also Want to Leave the Beach

Best for: Couples wanting a balanced Philippines honeymoon without the full logistical effort of Palawan.
Panglao gives you the classic island ingredients: pale sand, warm water, diving, snorkeling, and resorts.
Then Bohol gives you something completely different inland.
That is why I would choose it over a pure resort island for couples who get restless.
Official Philippine tourism information highlights Alona Beach, diving around Panglao, snorkeling near Balicasag Island, and easy access through Bohol-Panglao International Airport. (app.philippines.travel)
One Day: Sea
Take a snorkeling or diving trip.
The waters around Balicasag are known for turtles and reef life.
If wildlife appears, enjoy it without trying to grab it, chase it, touch it, or position it for a romantic GoPro sequence.
Marine animals have not signed your honeymoon photography release form.
Another Day: Bohol
Head inland toward the Chocolate Hills and visit a reputable sanctuary to see Philippine tarsiers.
The tarsiers are tiny, nocturnal and easily stressed, so choose responsible places that enforce quiet behavior and avoid handling animals.
That matters much more than getting a close photograph.
Bohol’s natural tourism offering includes the Chocolate Hills, tarsier conservation areas, beaches and marine experiences. (app.philippines.travel)
Budget around $120–200 per couple per day for a comfortable stay, or $200–350+ for upscale beachfront accommodation and private tours.

10. Labuan Bajo & Komodo — For Couples Who Think a Dragon Counts as Romance

Best for: Adventurous couples, liveaboards, wildlife, snorkeling and a honeymoon nobody at the office can easily copy.
Here is my favorite wild card.
Fly into Labuan Bajo, board a boat, and spend several days moving through Komodo National Park.
Wake to dry hills rising above dark-blue water.
Hike Padar Island.
Snorkel above reefs.
Look for manta rays.
Visit Rinca or Komodo Island with official rangers.
Sleep aboard a traditional-style phinisi boat.
There are easier honeymoon destinations.
That isn’t the point.
Komodo National Park was established partly to protect the Komodo dragon and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The protected area includes Komodo, Rinca, Padar and surrounding marine ecosystems, where guided wildlife encounters and snorkeling or diving are major experiences. (Visit Indonesia)
Private Boat or Shared Boat?
For honeymooners, this is one place where I would seriously consider paying extra for a small-group or private multi-day boat, provided the operator has strong safety credentials.
The experience changes completely when you aren’t traveling with a large party.
But do your homework.
Check:
- Boat safety equipment
- Life jackets
- Recent reviews
- Crew experience
- Cabin ventilation or air-conditioning
- Emergency procedures
- National park permits
- Whether wildlife rules are respected
Ocean currents around Komodo can be powerful. This is not the destination for selecting an operator simply because the boat looks good on Instagram.
Expect around $180–300 per couple per day for a comfortable land-based trip with day excursions. Quality liveaboards or private trips can push this toward $400–600+ per day, sometimes much higher.

Which Southeast Asia Honeymoon Should You Actually Choose?
After reading ten destination descriptions, you may have achieved the exact opposite of clarity.
Useful.
Here’s how I would decide.
Choose Bali if this is your first trip to Southeast Asia and you want a little bit of everything.
Choose Koh Samui if your fantasy involves a beach resort, good food, massages and limited logistical suffering.
Choose El Nido if both of you would rather be kayaking through limestone lagoons than dressing for dinner.
Choose Hoi An if food, culture, affordability and atmosphere matter more than private-island isolation.
Choose Langkawi if you want easy luxury with rainforest and nature nearby.
Choose Luang Prabang if you are both exhausted and want the world to slow down for a few days.
Choose Siem Reap if temples, history and boutique hotels sound more exciting than another week on a beach.
Choose Singapore if your love language includes excellent public transport and eating five times per day.
Choose Bohol & Panglao if you want an accessible mixture of beach, wildlife and inland exploration.
Choose Labuan Bajo & Komodo if the two of you view marriage as an appropriate moment to board a wooden boat and go looking for three-meter lizards.
Perfectly reasonable.
How Much Does a Southeast Asia Honeymoon Cost?
One reason Southeast Asia honeymoon packages remain so attractive is the enormous range.
You could spend $100–150 a day as a couple in parts of Vietnam, Laos or Cambodia and still travel very comfortably.
At the other end, a private villa, business-class regional flights, yacht charters and fine dining can turn Southeast Asia into a spectacularly effective method for separating you from several thousand dollars.
For a two-week honeymoon excluding long-haul international flights, I would roughly plan:
Comfortable Honeymoon: $2,500–4,000 per couple
Think:
- Good boutique hotels
- Some private transfers
- Local restaurants
- Several tours
- A couple of massages
- One or two luxury splurges
Luxury Honeymoon: $4,000–8,000 per couple
Think:
- Four- and five-star hotels
- Pool villas
- Private drivers
- Private tours
- Better flight timings
- Fine dining
- Spa treatments
Serious Luxury: $8,000+
There is effectively no ceiling.
The phrase “oceanfront private pool villa with butler” has rarely been associated with financial restraint.
Two Practical Money Tricks That Save Honeymoon Arguments

Nothing says eternal love quite like one person standing at an ATM saying, “Why did it charge us THAT?”
I prefer traveling with at least two payment methods.
A multi-currency card can make regional travel easier, particularly if your honeymoon crosses several countries.
💳 GET REVOLUT FOR YOUR HONEYMOON →
Or:
💱 SET UP WISE BEFORE YOUR TRIP →
Important tip: Always carry a backup physical card and some cash. Machines malfunction. Cards get blocked. Restaurants occasionally prefer cash. Technology waits until the least convenient moment to develop a personality.
Sustainable Honeymoon Travel Without Becoming Insufferable About It
There is an uncomfortable contradiction in traveling to beautiful natural places: the more people love them, the easier they are to damage.
You don’t need to turn your honeymoon into an environmental audit.
A few choices make a real difference.
Choose Wildlife Experiences Carefully
Do not touch coral.
Do not stand on reefs.
Do not chase turtles.
Avoid operators encouraging people to feed wild animals purely for photos.
With animals such as tarsiers, Komodo dragons, marine turtles, manta rays and monkeys, distance is usually the more responsible approach.
Spend Money Locally
Eat at locally owned restaurants.
Book local guides.
Buy things made locally rather than imported souvenir clutter.
Visit independent cafés and family businesses.
Your money then circulates further within the community you’re visiting.
Refill Instead of Rebuying
Carry a reusable bottle where safe refill stations are available.
A two-week tropical trip can otherwise produce an extraordinary mountain of plastic water bottles.
Don’t Treat Temples as Sets
At Angkor, Bali, Hoi An and Luang Prabang, remember that heritage and religious sites are more than content backgrounds.
Dress appropriately.
Follow signs.
Keep voices down.
Do not block people who are praying.
Use Water Thoughtfully
This matters particularly on islands where fresh water may be limited.
You probably do not need your hotel towels replaced twice per day.
Nobody has yet identified a honeymoon that failed because the same towel survived until Tuesday.
The Best Southeast Asia Honeymoon Itineraries If You Have Two Weeks

If I had approximately 14 days, I would resist combining four countries.
Airports are deeply overrated honeymoon destinations.
Instead, pair places that offer contrast.
For First-Time Visitors
Bali: Ubud + Uluwatu — 10 nights
Add Singapore — 3 nights
This gives you temples, food, beaches, villas and one of Asia’s most enjoyable city breaks.
For Beach + Culture
Hoi An — 5 nights
Luang Prabang — 4 nights
Add Bangkok or Singapore — 3 nights
This is much more interesting than spending two straight weeks horizontal beside the same swimming pool.
For Serious Island Lovers
El Nido — 5 nights
Bohol & Panglao — 5 nights
Manila or Cebu — 1–2 nights for flight connections
Leave buffer days in the Philippines because island logistics and tropical weather occasionally regard schedules as amusing suggestions.
For Adventure Couples
Bali — 6 nights
Labuan Bajo & Komodo — 4–5 nights
Return via Bali.
That gives you comfortable hotels before and after a proper boat-and-wildlife adventure.
The Part Where You Stop Comparing and Start Booking
If there is one thing I would avoid when planning a honeymoon in Southeast Asia, it is trying to manufacture some theoretical version of the perfect honeymoon.
Maybe you don’t want rose petals.
Maybe candlelit dinners bore you.
Maybe your idea of romance is snorkeling with turtles, demolishing six plates of street food, and spending twenty minutes arguing about whether the thing moving beside your hotel balcony was a gecko or a very small dinosaur.
Good.
Choose the trip that feels like you two, not the one that looks most conventionally honeymoon-ish on social media.
For most first-time visitors, Bali remains my easiest all-round recommendation because you can build completely different holidays within one island. For straightforward beach luxury, I’d choose Koh Samui. For the most dramatic island scenery, El Nido. For value, food and atmosphere, Hoi An. For a slower cultural trip, Luang Prabang. For adventure, Komodo wins without much argument.
And if your budget allows, combine two places rather than trying to force every honeymoon fantasy into one destination.
Start somewhere active.
End somewhere lazy.
Do temples first.
Pool later.
That is particularly useful because the final three days of a honeymoon should not involve a 4:45 a.m. alarm, three ferries and a mountain hike. Finish softly.
Book the hotel you are genuinely excited about. Pay for the private transfer after the overnight flight. Reserve the experience you’ve been talking about for months. Spend money where it noticeably improves the trip — comfort, time, privacy and experiences — rather than automatically upgrading everything.
Most importantly, leave empty space.
Some of your favorite moments may happen between the things you planned: a sudden rainstorm while you’re under a café awning in Hoi An, the smell of charcoal drifting across a street in Luang Prabang, a boat engine going quiet between the cliffs in Palawan, or that peculiar silence after sunset when everybody stops talking because there isn’t much to add.
Those are the bits worth traveling for.
And probably a pretty good way to begin a marriage too.
